Realme 8s 5G Unboxing And First Impressions

[ad_1]

Realme has launched two new smartphones under the Realme 8 series in India – Realme 8s 5G and Realme 8i. Talking about the Relame 8s 5G, it is the world’s first smartphone to feature the latest 6nm Dimensity 810 5G processor from MediaTek. Inside the box, we got the Realme 8s 5G smartphone in Blue color. It is also available in the Purple color option. The device comes with a 33W Dart Charge adapter, USB Type-C cable, SIM ejector tool, transparent TPU case, quick start guide, and product information booklet.

The rear of the device comes with a frosted matte finish. Unlike the glossy finish which will be slippery and fingerprint magnet, the Realme 8s 5G with the matte finish feels great in the hand. It measures 8.8 mm in thickness and weighs around 191 grams. The power button on the right side also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner. To the left, we have a volume rocker and a triple card slot with support for two nano SIM cards and one MicroSD card. The single speaker, primary microphone, and USB Type-C port are on the bottom side.

There is just a secondary microphone on the top side of the device. On the front, we have the 6.5 inch LCD display with Full HD+ resolution. The display comes with a 90hz refresh rate and 600nits of brightness. There is also a hole-punch cutout for accommodating the selfie camera. The camera is placed in the top left corner for distraction-free gaming or binge-watching. Moreover, the display offers good colors and wide viewing angles. With the 90Hz refresh rate, the UI feels very smooth in day-to-day use.

You can also switch to a 60Hz refresh rate to save on battery life. With the latest MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G chipset, the Realme 8s 5G offers a stable experience all over the day. It features 2x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2GHz. The 2-core Mali-G57 GPU looks after the gaming needs. While the device comes in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants, the company is also including the Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) technology for expanding the RAM by another 5GB. When enabled, the device will allocate 5GB of internal storage for using it as virtual RAM.

Both the RAM variants include 128GB of UFS 2.2 flash storage. For most of the tasks, there won’t be any need for using the virtual RAM. Even the base variant with 6GB of RAM is good enough to handle a majority of the apps. In terms of gaming, the device handles all of them comfortably even the graphic-intensive ones but in medium settings. However, playing for a longer duration makes the device hot and the performance throttling comes into place. Coming to the day-to-day performance, the Dimensity 810 chipset paired with a 90Hz display performs better than most other sub Rs 20,000 smartphones.

The device runs on the latest Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 out of the box. On the rear, the Realme 8s features a triple camera setup and LED flash. It includes a 64-megapixel primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 2-megapixel B&W portrait lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a 2-megapixel macro lens with f/2.4 aperture. Leaving out the other two sensors, the 64MP Omnivision OV64B sensor performs as expected. The same sensor is also used on several other Realme smartphones. Note that it is not capable of recording videos in 4k resolution, even the 1080p video recording is limited to 30 fps.

Coming to the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera with f/2.1 aperture. While the output from the front camera is decent in the daylight, it struggles badly in low light conditions. The device comes equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and supports 33W Dart Charge fast charging technology. Even using with a 90Hz refresh rate, it easily lasts one complete day of regular usage. The power-efficient chipset ensures there is no need for switching to 60Hz refresh rate. However, we can’t comment on how it performs when using it on a 5G network.

In terms of connectivity, the Realme 8s support Dual-SIM 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C port. It also comes with Hi-Res Audio support which is missing on most other smartphones in this price range. The Realme 8s 5G is priced at Rs 17,999 for the 6GB RAM variant and Rs 19,999 for the 8GB RAM variant. It will go on sale starting September 13 at 12 PM. According to the company, the Realme 8s 5G will be available via Flipkart, Realme.com, and major offline stores across the country.
